I have not encountered a “fake” as such, but I have encountered some lame “refurb” jobs using whatever hardware the seller could find in his or her junk drawer.

I purchased a style 5 Big Ben that was somewhat of a mix of parts from different models. I purchased a style 7 Big Ben that was re-assembled using dry wall screws.
