Frequently asked questions about fake timepieces up for auction.

Is it true that some sellers have been sued and investigated by the FBI? Who are they?
Sadly, it is true. I am unable to comment on any ongoing or past litigation.
Seller I didn't know my clock was fake! Why didn't you Email/tell me before listing it on your fakes page?
Vintage Westclox is NOT a member of any on-line auction service and thus is unable to Email anyone!
The amazing thing is that I offer to remove the link if they remove the auction but this has only happened in a few rare cases.
Seller Prove to me that my item is fake along with documentation, references, etc...!!!
First of all, anyone with a little knowledge can determine whether an item is fake.
Please click on this link How to Recognize a Fake. This link shows several examples of fakes and how you can tell!
I also ask for any proof of authenticy that it is real such as an old ad, advertising, literature that originally came with the item etc.. The proof must be authentic and not made up.
To date, I have received NO proof from anyone that their item is "authentic". You would think that if an item was authentic that some proof would show up somewhere, but I am still waiting.
Buyer Can you tell me if this clock is fake? It is item# 123456789?
First check the images on the fakes page. If it is listed, it is fake.
If you would like an answer, please include your Email address.
You must also allow time for the question to be answered. Last minute questions usually don't make it in time.
Buyer How does an item end up on your Fakes page?
There are many dedicated and knowledgeable people who submit item#s to me.
They are checked for accuracy and listed only if they have been determined to be fake.
If an item is in question, several experts in the field are Emailed to get their opinions.
If anyone thinks that the item may be real, it is NOT listed.
Buyer Why do you bother listing fakes? Who cares?
Any true collector is appalled when they see a fake/fantasy/marriage timepiece.
The information is given out to help new buyers and even knowledgeable ones avoid making a serious buying mistake.
The information is also meant to deter sellers from making up fake items.
Seller I am going to sue you for ruining my auction, defamation etc..
Be my guest. A few have tried but no one has won.
Remember, you are not just going up against my opinion but a whole army of experienced clock experts!
Buyer You saved me from buying a fake. How can I thank you?
No thanks are necessary. I am glad that you avoided making a mistake that many have made.
